Call for Applications: Cohort VII of the Inter/National Coalition for Electronic Portfolio Research
Applications due January 13, 2012
Cohort VII of the Inter/National Coalition for Electronic Portfolio Research will focus on assessment through the lens of four propositions. Those propositions center on the interaction of pieces of evidence, the relationship of evidence and reflection, material practices, and meaningful comparison without standardization. The propositions are:
- For meaningful assessment, interaction of pieces of evidence within an eportfolio is more important than single pieces of evidence.
- Reflection on pieces of evidence within an eportfolio and on the eportfolio as a whole provides information for assessment that is not available by other means.
- The material practice of eportfolio composition generates distinctive knowledge about learning.
- Eportfolios enable meaningful comparison of student learning across institutions (and other contexts) without standardization.
If your institution is interested in exploring these ideas in a systematic way to influence the direction of assessment of learning and in conducting research on your own eportfolio practices or programs, you are invited to apply for participation in Cohort VII.
To apply for Cohort VII participation, submit the application form to the Coalition directors: Darren Cambridge at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. New AAC&U E-Portfolio Forum Session: Balancing Student-centered Portfolios with Assessment Using Open Source Tools
ePortfolio California has released another video presentation from the AAC&U ePortfolio Forum held January 29, 2011 to the ePortfolio California resource archive.

New Online Community supporting E-Portfolio Development in K-12 Schools with Dr. Helen Barrett
This proposed community will offer online classes that would start in August 2011. A web page is available to gather interest in this project, with a list of proposed courses (scroll to bottom of page).
This series would provide an opportunity to guide teachers through a year-long process of implementation with GoogleApps / Digication / Teacher Dashboard or other Web 2.0-based tools. The plan is to primarily use a private Google Group and Google Site to facilitate the course, with live events available through Skype, GoToWebinar, or Adobe Connect.
If you are interested in more information, complete this form. Also, indicate if you are interested in collaborating on planning the course over the summer of 2011.

California Represented in the PESC Academic ePortfolio Workgroup
John Ittelson, current Director of Communication, Collaboration, and Outreach for the California Virtual Campus (CVC), seems to be everywhere...all the time; especially where electronic portfolios are concerned. As a member of the CVC, he was instrumental in establishing the ePortfolio California project, and its accompanying pilot that included over twenty community colleges, CSUs and UCs. He has supported the wide-spread adoption of ePortfolios for higher education, and his published works include An Overview of Institutional E-Portfolios, an EDUCAUSE Learning Initiative, co-authored with George Lorenzo, 2007.
For the past two years, John has served as co-chair of the Academic ePortfolio Workgroup, a standards development initiative currently underway by the Post-secondary Electronic Standards Council (PESC).
ePortfolio California Releases Keynote Presentations from AAC&U E-Portfolio Forum
ePortfolio California supports educational institutions, organizations, and communities that are investigating academic ePortfolios to enhance or improve the student learning experience. Whenever possible, we look for ways to collaborate with these groups in order to share back information and best practices with the California ePortfolio community.
In that spirit, ePortfolio California, in collaboration with the Association of American Colleges & Universities (AAC&U), and with support from Digication and 3C Media Solutions, recorded and will release select video presentations from the AAC&U E-Portfolio Forum: Deepening High Impact Learning, a day-long conference dedicated to the study and advancement of academic electronic portfolios in education. The sold-out event was held on Saturday, January 29, as part of the AAC&U Annual Global Meeting in San Francisco, CA.
This first media release includes the keynote presentations. The remaining workshop sessions will be released weekly throughout April and May. All sessions will be archived for future reference on the ePortfolio California website.
