Open Source Mahara Solutions from Providers Supporting Free ePortfolios
"In the spirit of life-long learning, learners should be able to creatively demonstrate both formal and informal achievements and outcomes in a single medium", says Dirk Meyer of iCampus21, a service provider promoting the use of the open-source Mahara ePortfolio software at the upcoming Exploring ePortfolio Technologies webinar session Wednesday, February 22 at 10:00AM PST. Meyers is one of several presenters at Wednesday's session that believe that learners will benefit from maximizing the use of different web tools to drive their own success.
Joining the discussion is Ian Knox of FolioSpaces, an early advocate of learning management systems. "There are many opportunities to move beyond the LMS, and ePortfolios are just one of these opportunities. Learning needs are also changing, as todays workers need to constantly upgrade skills, and even completely change professions. The ability to have access to past learning materials and to reflect on this learning has never been greater as users can repurpose content to suit their current needs".
Please join us this Wednesday, February 22nd for an interactive session featuring international vendors highlighting examples of ePortfolio implementations using Mahara software and other technologies.
SPECIAL NOTE: Attendees of this session will be entered into a drawing to receive a one year service subscription of a Mahara ePortfolio cloud server instance compliments of iCampus21. Don't miss this opportunity to experience Mahara first hand and begin exploring open source technologies that promote life-long learning.

The spring 2012 season of Exploring ePortfolio Technologies Series returns Wednesday, January 18, spotlighting seven new ePortfolio tools and how they uniquely enhance the teaching and learning experience for higher education institutions and their students. Each webinar session will be recorded and archived for future reference with accompanying product information (i.e., technical specifications, business operations) - for the purpose of growing a resource matrix for comparative review.

"The fall series was so successful," says Patty Donohue, Program Manager for ePortfolio California, and co-organizer of the webinar project. "It positively reinforced and validated the need for this kind of community resource. Just like with any investment you might make - whether it's a home, or a car, or a software tool - it's important to have a frame of reference for comparison and evaluation. That's our primary goal for this project and we can't wait to review the next round of tools and see what they bring to the table."

About the Exploring ePortfolio Technology Series
Based on feedback from a community survey conducted in spring 2011, EPAC, ePortfolio California, and AAEEBL will host a series of interactive webinars with leading eportfolio developers to see how their solution addresses eportfolio pedagogy. Sessions will include a short overview demonstration of the tool or technology, followed by an interview-style Q&A period where the developer will demonstrate how their tool addresses specific areas of teaching and learning with eportfolios.
Archives of the webinar sessions, product and IT information, and vendor responses to the community survey will form the basis of a comprehensive, interactive online resource that will be shared back with the community, encouraging further discussion and development over time. In addition, a companion series of vendor interviews conducted by Trent Batson, Executive Director of AAEEBL, will appear in Campus Technology magazine in October.
See the Exploring ePortfolio Technologies Webinar Series Resources here.
All sessions are free and will run twice monthly through the fall and, depending on the response, continue through spring 2012. Facilitators include: Helen Chen. Stanford University; Gary Brown, University of Portland; Patricia Donohue, ePortfolio California; Trent Batson, AAEEBL; John Ittelson, PESC Academic ePortfolio Workgroup; and Judy Williamson Batson, AAEEBL. Vendors scheduled for the fall sessions include eFolioWorld, Desire2Learn, FolioTek, Mahara, LiveText and Epsilen. Stay informed.
