Three leading eportfolio organizations join together to address concerns and questions from the higher education community about electronic portfolio technologies and how various eportfolio tools might meet their diverse needs for teaching and learning.
Please join us live every second and fourth Wednesday throughout fall 2011 for Exploring ePortfolio Technologies: Reviewing Platforms and Approaches for Teaching, Learning and Beyond, an ongoing webinar series featuring a variety of eportfolio tools and technologies - beginning September 14 at 10:00AM PST.
Based on feedback from a community survey conducted in spring 2011, EPAC, ePortfolio California, and AAEEBL will host this unique opportunity to interact with leading eportfolio developers and see how their solution addresses eportfolio pedagogy.
Archives of the webinar sessions, product and IT information, and vendor responses to the community survey will form the basis of a comprehensive, interactive online resource that will be shared back with the community, encouraging further discussion and development over time. In addition, a companion series of vendor interviews conducted by Trent Batson, Executive Director of AAEEBL, will appear in Campus Technology magazine in October.
“This webinar series came about,” explains Stanford University Researcher Helen Chen, Co-Founder of EPAC, “because no matter how much we emphasize that the teaching and learning with eportfolios is a priority over the technology, questions always arise about eportfolio platforms. Therefore, we thought it would be a good service to the eportfolio community to offer this webinar series and to address specific issues that arise in relation to the technologies of eportfolios.”
The sessions will include a short overview demonstration of the tool or technology, followed by an interview-style Q&A period where the developer will demonstrate how their tool addresses specific areas of teaching and learning with eportfolios. Vendors scheduled for the fall sessions include Digication, eFolioWorld, Desire2Learn, FolioTek, Mahara, LiveText and Epsilen.
“We really wanted to do something more than just provide an arena for vendors to demo their products to educators”, said Patty Donohue, Project Manager for ePortfolio California. “Our goal from the start was to create something useful to all stakeholders, but mainly for educators who are trying to find the right tool for their needs.”
All sessions are free and will run twice monthly through the fall and, depending on the response, continue through spring 2012. Starting times may vary, however both September sessions will begin at 10:00AM PST [1:00PM EST]. Facilitators for the sessions will rotate among: Helen Chen. Stanford University; Gary Brown, University of Portland; Patricia Donohue, ePortfolio California; Trent Batson, AAEEBL; John Ittelson, PESC Academic ePortfolio Workgroup; and Judy Williamson Batson, AAEEBL. Additionally, international facilitators will be welcomed to the webinar series along with some eportfolio vendors who are not as prevalent in the United States.
Pre-registration is now open for the first session featuring Digication - September 14 at 10:00AM PST.
