The AAEEBL Conference on Learning, Metacognition and ePortfolios
Johnson & Wales University, Providence, Rhode Island

About this Conference

In today?s eportfolio practices, two dominant trends are clear: the portfolio is increasingly associated with the individual learner; and eportfolios provide a natural pathway to the practice of social pedagogies. Institutional tracking toward learning outcomes continues, but the recent rebound of interest in portfolios among administrators and faculty stems from a more deliberate focus on student ownership of eportfolio work, on social dynamics among learners, and on better portfolio interfaces to support both individual and collaborative learning.

This conference, in addition to featuring sessions provided by Northeast US campuses and sharing of success stories among regional colleagues, also offers a special focus on the learner, on metacognition, and on social pedagogy. Presenters are invited to examine ideas for learner-centered curriculum redesign both within single courses and longitudinally over several related courses, or within an entire program or major. A central question will be how educators can design a deep-learning curriculum with electronic portfolios.

What are the implications of student ownership of their eportfolios and of social pedagogies for teaching, learning, assessment, and career development? What are the implications for institutional research as individual ownership and dynamic interaction among eportfolios users becomes more prevalent? What are the implications for student-teacher relationships and for the interaction among students themselves? How do these trends impact metacognition?

We invite you to submit a proposal for a:

45-minute interactive session with a minimum of 15 minutes of Q&A
Poster session that will occur during the reception
Proposals will be reviewed by the program committee. To submit a proposal to present at this conference, please fill in the online form. The deadline to submit is February 22, 2012. You will be notified by February 29, 2012 if your proposal has been accepted.

This conference, chaired by Associate Provost James Griffin of Johnson & Wales University, will be held just south of Providence RI on beautiful Narragansett Bay and is one of three themed AAEEBL conferences to be held yearly in the US.

Please join us for what is sure to be a day of intense and challenging conversations about implementation, research and use of eportfolios.
