Community-Building Webinar Inspires Collaboration
More than 30 state, national, and international educators convened digitally on Wednesday, August 11 to discuss building an effective community of practice around ePortfolios.
The discussion was hosted by the ePortfolio California project team and delivered via a CCC Confer webinar. The webinar format allowed the group to collaborate through their computers and phones despite the fact that some were attending from the other side of the globe.
"On behalf of everyone at ePortfolio California, I'd like to thank all the participants and facilitators who joined us for what we hope will be the first of many interactive discussions around ePortfolios and their impact on student success and lifelong learning." - Patty Donohue, ePortfolio California program manager.
Attendees used chat messaging to exchange contact information and ideas about how to foster an effective community of practice.
"Our goal for the webinar was to allow potential members an opportunity to let us know what they wanted from a community of practice," said Donohue. "There were many common threads of interest among attendees, and those areas of interest will help to form the immediate focus for our community building effort."
A copy of the webinar presentation is now available to review or for those who were unable to attend the live session. Due to a brief technical snafu at the beginning of the session, the audio portion on the first few slides is not available. However, a synopsis of the discussion, including a look at the key themes that emerged from the participants, is being compiled.
ePortfolio California invites anyone interested in participating in the design and development of the community of practice to contact Patty Donohue at
